Marla has always dreamed of sharing her love of baking in a professional capacity. Growing up in Southern Alberta, her love for baking was discovered through her mother, who was frequently in the kitchen baking up a storm with her and her two sisters. Muffins for breakfast, cookies for snacks, a pie for Sunday dinner or a cake when an occasion warranted.
One summer, Marla and her sisters begged their parents to send them to horse camp. As resourceful as she was wise, their mother hatched a plan that found them selling homemade apple pies door-to-door in their neighborhood. It didn’t take long for them to come up with the funds to go to camp and in later years, Marla’s mom and sisters headed larger fundraising ventures selling pies.
After high school, Marla traded in her apron for designer dresses and high heels, and moved to the city to pursue fashion modelling. With stints in New York City, Paris, London, Milan and Tokyo, Marla walked some of the most prestigious catwalks (such as Prada, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Zac Posen, etc.) and shot with some of the best photographers in the world including Patrick Demarchelier, David Sims, and Peter Lindberg.
Returning to Canada in 2008, Marla continued her modelling career, but her thoughts had turned to her culinary roots on the prairies. And so, she began her entry into the pie-making business. She is excited to bring the culmination of her experience in her own kitchen with her epicurean experiences abroad to Torontonians and hopes that they enjoy each bite of pie as much as she loves crafting them.
Marla lives in Toronto with her coffee (and pie) loving husband, two energetic children and an adorable chihuahua.
